This Week in the Vineyard

Pinot Gris has finished veraison and entered the ripening stage. Personally, I believe the color of Pinot Gris at this stage is the most lovely of all grape berry colors. The veraison period of Italian Riesling (aka Welschriesling) is far more subtle to detect, as the berries simply become translucent. But other physical characteristic indicators of ripening are more obvious, such as the berries becoming larger, softer and the entire grape clusters greatly increase in size.
