What or who is a verecund vigneron?

I am glad you asked. To start, some definitions:

Verecund – adjective. bashful shy, modest. (source)

Vigneron  – someone who cultivates a vineyard for winemaking. The word connotes or emphasizes the critical role that vineyard placement and maintenance has in the production of high-quality wine. The term, French for someone who grows grapes or makes wine, is often used in Australia to describe a winemaker who is also involved as an owner or manager as opposed to a person who is employed only to make wine, who is generally referred to as a winemaker. It is also used when referring to a winemaker from France. (source)

So a verecund vigneron is simply a “modest winemaker”. But not just another winemaker working only in a winery with the harvested grapes, but an artisan, small scale vineyard and winery owner operator who actively tends to their own vineyards and then, literally, making their personal fine wines from the fruit their own hands on efforts.

Because, in the end, it should not be about personalities or even wineries. It should only be about the wine.
